Catch Up...Pictures

A Picture with Santa

Liam's alone time with Santa where Liam tells him what he wants.

Kaylie "alone time with Santa" where she tells him what kind of makeup case she wants. In case you are wondering, she wants a makeup case just like the one that Hannah Montana has in her movie.

Doesn't he look dashing? Liam on stage getting ready for the concert.

3rd Grade School Party

Kaylie running in the field trying to hit someone with a balloon. Just look at that grin on her face...you can tell she is up to no good. :)

Kaylie's 3rd grade party. The kids party was held at the end of the day. They had an ice cream sundae and water balloon party. Instead of wearing comfortable, practical clothing, Kay opted for wearing a pretty dress. Of course, when she sat on the floor she totally forgot her manners and was flashing everybody. ;) 9161

Teacher's Gifts

As the school year comes to an end, it always catches me off guard. Every year I vow that I will start making the teachers' gift early in the year, but it never happens.

I find it easier to make something for Liam's teacher because I have gotten to know her a bit better since I am a homeroom mom. However, now that Kaylie is in the 3rd grade, they don't do as many activities that require lots of help from parents so I don't socialize with the teacher much. I couldn't volunteer to be a homeroom parent in her class because 2nd and 3rd grade celebrate the same events at the same time so I take turns coming in to each class. 9161

Liam's teacher was thrilled with her gift. She told me that she was hoping that I'd make one for her.

Kaylie was quite happy with her teacher's gift. After I was done with the pages for the teachers, I customized the pages with a new title and journaling and printed them for the kids.

Good News!

Liam has begun 2nd grade this year and I've just received notification that he has been accepted to the Academic Talented program.

He began school on Sept. 8th and I haven't received a behaviour card or call from his teacher yet... I guess she'll let me know how he is doing on Parent/Teacher day coming up Sept. 24th.

Kaylie likes school and likes her teacher, too. Unfortunately, her best friend Kaitlynn is not in her classroom this year. :( Third grade is proving to be rather difficult for Kaylie. She really needs to step up, which means that I need to spend even more time with her helping her with her homework and drills. 4859

Gift for Liam's Teacher/Last Day of School

Bittersweet ending of the school year...saying goodbye to a beloved teacher.
Mrs. Pelcak giving Kaylie a hug as a thank you for the gift.
Last picture with his teacher before leaving school.

Free for all water balloon fight. I was the only person excepted out because of my camera, otherwise, I'd have gotten wet. Mrs. deMenezes had just told the class that they could throw their water balloons at her if they wanted to. :) Liam threw it at her, but missed. Then he tried throwing it at Mrs. Trophe, but missed, too, and it burst.

Wow, can he contort or what?!

I also designed a card, to go along with the framed layout. The message inside was handwritten by the kids.

The advantage of helping out at school is that I get to take lots of photos at the parties. :)
I made a compilation of photos ranging from 1st day of school to the last event that we had prior to end of school. I tried to include a picture of all of the children in the class, along with their names. Above is the finished project.

Framed layout.
Close-up of framed layout.

I've been going crazy trying to think of something to give to the kids' teachers. So, I ended up doing a layout with pictures of all of the kids in the class during different activities throughout the year. I hope they like the framed layouts.

Spring into Poetry

Liam as "The Loser." These little vignettes were happening so quickly that I didn't have time or space to work on the composition much.

This is what he looked like at 2:00 p.m. Sigh, he looks so dishevelled.

Liam was really excited about his Spring into Poetry recital today. He picked out his clothes last night and was even looking for a tie. He does look dashing, doesn't he?

They did 17 poems. While some of the kids read the poems, others were performing. It was a class effort for sure. Liam loved it.

Volcanoes!

I volunteered this morning to help out Kaylie's class with their volcano-making project. The kids had already covered their plastic bottles with clay ( to resemble the color of a volcano, not the shape) and today was the day to make the mixture to make them erupt.

The kids were all super excited - all 21 of them.

Here's the recipe for making your very own volcano.

1. Small empty plastic bottle
2. Cover the bottle with clay (to make it the color of a volcano)
3. Place the bottle in a tray (so when it erupts you don't have "lava" all over the place)
4. Add dish soap to the bottom of the bottle
5. Add baking soda
6. Add food coloring (red is perfect!) though blue and green are fab, too.
7. Add vinegar
8. Watch as the ingredients work together to form "lava" that will quickly erupt to the top and spill all over.

As a side note, the kids were so cool and creative. They used clay to make rocks, people and animals that quickly perished when the volcano exploded. LOL

School Field Day

I am just posting a few photos of the events that have transpired these last few weeks. On Field day, I walked the kids to school. Don't they look adorable? Yes, I am biased.
I had to keep running back and forth between the classes to get photos of the kids with their classmates and events.
I met my friend Elizabeth at school, then went for a coffee and bagel at the local bakery. Then we returned to the scheduled event.
It started at 8:45 and ended at 11:25. I was there the whole time and returned home with a rash. I am allergic to the sun and I get an itchy rash if exposed for too long. I needed SPF 90 instead of SPF45 I wore.

Recital

Kay recently had her Spring recital. She looked so cute in her dress. It lasted 30 minutes and they sang 6 songs. 3939
